Matilda movie reviews. It is a dark family comedy about stupid parents cruel teachers and a brave little girl and it is no surprise to find that Danny DeVito not only stars but directed it. This review will most likely be biased as I adored this movie growing up but thats why its perfect to review. But the film is very fun to watch and is brilliantly made.
Arriving in the latter half of the summer Danny DeVitos Matilda beats out such worthy contenders as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Harriet the Spy for best family fare of the season. DeVito Matilda makes too perverse a tale for very young children. The titular Matilda Wilson is the child genius born into a family of no.
Its a ridiculously funny movie you would feel happy to watch with the entire family. Imaginative and unique Matilda is a movie that children of all ages will likely enjoy on some level but also happens to be a worthwhile time for the whole family. Bree comes up with the You Can Do It Brucey Challenge.
This movie is a great to see the family and is an entertainer for both adults and kids and does provide some of the most heart-warming moments and the determination of the character Matilda does provide some of the best and momentous film screening ever. Matilda is a perfect family film that never talks down to children or shields them from the cruelty of the world. Matilda Wormwood somewhat stands out from her unappreciative and neglectful parents.
The power of its narrative and the self-composed presence of Wilson in the title role -- DeVito has persuaded the child to underact the part so that Matilda is precocious not obnoxious -- carry the movie resolutely to its happy conclusion. Ancillary prospects are even brighter. Dahl and given a jolt of caricature by Mr.
Its simple cute and absolutely adorable film that will be and is loved most likely by any family who ever got a chance to see it. A character is also murdered in a flashback. Matilda is a blackly comic delightfully off-the-wall picture that both kids and adults will lap up.
In conclusion Matilda is a movie you can watch any time and any day of the year. The movie is relatable for kids going through their own growing pains but the fantasy-based nature of the way Matilda copes with her problems doesnt offer many realistic solutions for young viewers. Though this film adaptation could be.
It has the whole message of how good and enlightening books can be from offering escapism from the cruel realities of the real world movies and television can suck it because they generally serve to dumb things down. Matilda is not in any sense a childrens movie although older children will probably like it a lot. But this one has playful flamboyance and a dark verve that older children should appreciate.
Luckily none of the inconsistencies in tone and atmosphere can overwhelm Matildas charm. Being a very bright girl with knowledge far beyond her tender six. Entertainment Weekly Ty Burr.
In that way its one of the few family films that actually resembles the original Grimms fairy tales where even your own parents would abandon you in the woods because they didnt want to bother feeding you or because you usurped them in beauty or talent. Indeed Matilda has definite sleeper potential and could very well outgross many more highly publicized and star-studded summer releases. The film discusses how most ideas come from hard work and careful planning.
Today I review another one of my favorite childhood films Matilda released in 1996 by Columbia Tristar and stars Danny DeVito Rhea Perlman Embeth Davidt. Twisted enough by Mr. Matilda United States 1996 A movie review by James Berardinelli.
Matilda doesnt condescend to children it doesnt sentimentalize and as a result it feels heartfelt and sincere. Bree and Chelsea get a little tipsy and review the classic childrens movie Matilda. Josh L Super Reviewer Nov 29.
And it has a sweet self-possessed little heroine. Hardly a moment of Matilda can be described as either juvenile or condescending and compared with many of this summers so-called mature features that makes for a delightfully refreshing change-of-pace.
